JIMMY REID

When Jimmy Reid received rave reviews for his vocal talent at school and church, perhaps nobody knew then that he was laying the foundation for an illustrious career as a singing star and recording artist. Jimmy Reid started his singing career back in the late sixties. Singing with such top names as The Beltones, Cables, Jimmy London and Eric Donaldson. The former little boy from Jackson Sligoville, ST Catherine, Jamaica, doesn't have to convince anyone of his achievements. At that time, rural Jamaica was no- place for a young man who wanted to become a star. So he moved to west Kingston to live with his grandmother, it didn't take him long to fine Duke Reid's studio one of the leading recording operations in Jamaica at the time. Like others Jimmy use to hang out at Sundays auditions where he met people such as Eric Donaldson, Jimmy London, Max Romeo, Gregory Isaacs and the Cables. Shortly after he started a group with two other guys, when that didn't work too well he linked up with the Beltones, which include Trevor Shields. He recorded a few songs with that group and about 1972 Switched to the Cables and released three songs with them.

In 1974 he released his first single, "Time will tell" on a label called "Dawn" The following year He migrated to Canada and work the club circuit in and around Toronto for a period of time. After settling down in Toronto he teamed up with two other guys and formed a group called Jimmy Reid & The Rocking Moments. After recording "I'm so fed up" he went solo and released "Rest your love on me" which went number one on Toronto reggae charts. Another chart topper "Open the door" followed that. And later "My tears are falling" which was another hit. His first album "Are you ready" was released in 1984, and his second album in 1986 which was produce by Winston Richards with keyboard contribution by the late Jackie Mittoo. In 1984 he won his first reggae Awards for best single and in subsequent years he won singer of the year and entertainer of the year.

In 1995 Jimmy Reid won the award of merit at the Canadian Reggae Music Award. Winner of Canadian Reggae Music Awards for Album of the year for 2000 his latest release "Secret Emotions", Jimmy was also a nominee in the Reggae category for the Juno Awards in 2001. His latest album "Secret Emotion" which was released in November of 2000 has gotten rave reviews all around Toronto and doing well in other countries. Today, with five Canadian reggae music awards, four albums and several singles Jimmy is currently working in the studio on several singles soon to be release. Jimmy has worked with lots of big reggae acts in Toronto, and international artist such as Chalice, Lt. Stitchie, Gregory Isaacs, Lloyd Parks, Fab Five, Dennis Brown Beres Hammond and many others.
